The Me-Time Mixtape: Three essential hand-curated links and resources on creative self-care. Carve out some me time this week!
#1 Playful Poetry: Ode to a Mushroom
Nature often inspires me to write poetry (or in my journal). Some of those poems or written pieces make their way into my podcast, and some let me have a bit of fun in the moment. This recent Instagram post celebrates the mushroom. Mushrooms are getting popular again, and that makes me happy cause every time I see a mushroom peeking out of some tree bed or along a stone edge, I have to smile. I don't know why, who can tell, but mushrooms make me happy, they do what witches do and cast a spell.
What nature connection inspires you? Use my mushroom ode as inspiration and write in response to this writing prompt:
Write a short poem or journal entry that celebrates something from nature, an animal, plant, or natural phenomenon that holds wonder for you.
#2 In Celebration of Hips
I love this recitation by Lucille Clifton. I love the humor in the introduction, the outright burst of love and acceptance for women's bodies (without qualification or apology), and the simplicity and conviction of the poem itself. Enjoy!
#3 Relax In 5 Minutes
This list of 40 ways to relax (in 5 minutes or less) is a great go-to if you struggle to make time for yourself. We all have 5 minutes, and here are 40 ways to use them for self-care. This list is organized by categories, including peaceful activities, body-focused techniques, indulgent drinks/food, sensory pleasures, and expressing your creativity.
